Pedestrian bridge

The construction of the Salacgriva wooden bridge began in 1923.Each spring the bridge was rebuilt.
The Kazaku family men from Salacgriva were the first bridge builders and restorers.
They obtained the right to build the bridge at an auction organized by the county's council.
Theodore's wife, Ann, collected money at the end of the bridge, 2 santims from a pedestrian and 3 from a cyclist.
The first bridge was narrow and was intended for two pedestrians to walk alongside. The horse drawn carriages were taken across the river with a ferry.
Later the bridge was widened and carriages with horses could cross it.
At the end of the bridge a drop-down crossbar was installed so that no bridge user would cross it without paying.
